World Teachers Day was originally about the Status of Teachers, their rights and responsibilities, standards for preparation, employment, teaching and learning conditions.
One of the 99 names or attributes of Allah is Ar Rashid, which means The Teacher, or The Guide. The Holy Quran mentions that Allah taught Prophet Adam on whom be peace. In the few first verses that were revealed of the Holy Quran, it mentions how Allah taught by the pen, what we did not know.
Teachers are very special because not only are they clever and have a lot of knowledge, but they pass this on to others as well, helping people to aim for their goals and achieve. Teachers don’t just teach, they inspire and motivate us to do better.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said that teachers are like spiritual parents. He also taught us that we should be humble and respectful towards our teachers, and honour them. There is reward for someone who guides another. The Prophet, peace be upon him, was the most excellent teacher and example for us to learn from.
